I heard of superyachts through friends at university. I decided that my office job at the time was no longer the place for me and since then I haven’t looked back.

After being thrown in at the deep end on a 55m Schooner as my first job I learnt pretty fast. Two years on and a lot of hard work later I am now helping run a 24m sailing yacht as a Steward. Working on yachts is not just a job but a fantastic way to see the world, to meet new people and have some of the most memorable times of your life. As everyone says, it’s a ‘work hard, play hard’ way of life! Starting at 6am, working through until the last guest goes to sleep for up to four weeks straight is HARD.

But the day the guests go home and you are given the night off - that’s when ‘play’ gets hard! My advice to anyone starting off in the industry is to keep your head down and to take in all that you are taught and you will be flying up the ranks in no time.
