Crew Position: Deckhand

I’ve been working on a 50m yacht for about a year and a half. We’ve travelled to some great places and I’vegot to know some great crew from other superyachts as we’ve travelled.
My days depend on whether the owner and guests are onboard or not. If the owner and his family are with us, our day is generally focused on making sure they are looked after. I drive the family to and from the quay in the tender a number of times and also prepare and get the jet skis ready for them. When they’re not onboard we become cleaning fanatics. My Mother would be proud of me if she could see the things I clean and the wide range of materials we use! The cleaning can be backbreaking and a little boring sometimes but we have a laugh and vote for the music we want to listen to.
Lunchtime is everyone’s favourite time of the day. The usual jostling and queue-jumping occurs as the deck crew fight to be the first to pile a mountain of food onto their plates. Our highly trained chef has Michelin star restaurant experience and does not fail to impress once again.
